studio newborn prep guide

Congratulations & Welcome

I'm so happy you're here and want to congratulate you on the newest addition to your sweet family!

These first few days and weeks are so magical and I'm so grateful and honored you chose me to preserve this fleeting season for you!

Below you'll find some of my favorite tips and tricks that I have found super helpful when preparing for your sweet little ones session!

The best time to schedule your newborn session:

  • I always recommend reaching out to book your session in your second trimester! Once you hit your third trimester you'll be so busy prepping the nursery and hospital bags preparing for baby's arrival! (Trust me you will thank yourself later!)
  • When picking your session date i recommend reserving the Saturday after your due date - we will be in communication and will adjust based on babies arrival!
  • Sessions typically take place when baby is 4-14 days old. The sooner you let me know baby has arrived, the sooner we can adjust if needed!

On the day of your session:

  • Try to keep baby awake prior to session! This helps make baby extra sleepy for the session, which will help posing and going from set to set a bit easier and smoother! A warm bath, talking and interacting with baby is a great way to keep them up!
  • Feed baby right before the session! A full belly makes for a happy, sleepy baby! feel free to arrive to the studio 10 minutes before our session time to feed baby! (especially if you have a longer car ride)
  • The studio will be warm - Baby's like being warm & cozy and having the heat cranked on helps baby stay settled and sleepy (typically 70-75 degrees)
  • When baby needs a break we will take a break - Don't stress if baby gets fussy, if baby need to stop for a snack break or diaper change, we will! most babies feed at least 1-2 times during their session! It's hard work looking that cute!

What to bring for baby:

  • Pacifier - Sucking is soothing for babies & can really help settle baby once in position! Even if baby doesn't take one on a day to day basis i recommend bringing one along!
  • Milk - Babies typically stop to eat 2-3 times during their session but i recommend bringing a few extra just in case!
  • Diapers & wipes - my studio is stocked with diapers and wipes but if baby has sensitive skin i recommend bringing your typical brand!
  • Snacks and Water for parents - my studio is stocked with a couple snack options and cold water for parents! If you have specific diet restrictions please make sure to bring your own!
  • There is no need to bring anything for baby to wear - my studio is stocked full of wraps, headbands, hats, clothes and props. Unless there is something special you want to bring for your newborns photos, don't worry about outfits! If you do have something special you'd like to bring make sure to let me know prior so i can have a set based around it!

  • Go simple for families wardrobe - When planning your outfits for the family and sibling photos, stick with soft, neutral tones like creams and tans. This keeps the focus on baby and family connection.
  • Avoid neon colors - Vibrant, neon colors cast in photos and change the overall tone of images and skin tones.
  • For siblings go timeless and simple - steer clear of logos and shirts with writing. These can be distracting in photos as the eye automatically is drawn to the picture or words on the shirt.
  • Sit back & enjoy your session - This time is so fleeting, take it in! I want you to have fun watching your baby's first photo session!

I cant wait to meet your family!
